I always like to talk about people who are good leaders who set good examples in this world for all of us – and especially for our children.
I have mentioned Heisman Trophy winner Tim Tebow in the past. Tim Tebow, quarterback for the Denver Broncos is in the spotlight once again, but it seems like some people are not fond of him lately. He tends to give God all the credit for his accomplishments, and he actually bends down on one knee to pray once in a while.
Recently, Tebow has helped the Broncos reach a 7-win/2-loss streak at a time when the Broncs weren’t doing so well. The first thing Tebow answered recently during an after-game interview is that he would like to give all the glory to God, and ‘thanks’ for the talent the Lord has given him.
I want to say, “Thank you Tim, for saying what Christians know but don't have the stage or opportunity to do on national television as you do, and thank you for spreading the Gospel. And that if anyone believes in Jesus Christ as their Savior, they will be saved!”
If you want to hear more about the kind of gentleman Tim Tebow is, Google the interview Tim had with Skip Bayless from ESPN. It is a wonderful interview. Tim's words remind me of Dave Ramsey, the awesome Christian financial advisor broadcasted on the radio. When listeners ask Ramsey how he is doing, he replies, "Better than I deserve."
And that is mostly true for all of us. God has blessed us with so many things – jobs to get up for in the morning, wives and husbands and children, which are full of love; and usually enough food to keep us satisfied. And enough worldly challenges to keep us in the frame of mind to know that we need God to direct us in this world – and His grace and mercy to get us to the next, Heaven!
What we don’t need in our lives is more exposure and publicity for some of the popular movie stars and professional athletes who set bad examples with despicable behavior – for example, abusing drugs and alcohol and jumping from one relationship to another. I believe this is a hugely negative influence for our kids. We need more leaders (like Tebow) that have integrity and want to try to follow the rules God laid down 6,000 years ago to the children of Israel – so they too would have some guidance to follow. This is necessary to have some orderliness in society.
I love to go to one of the Books of the Bible that one of the wisest men who ever lived in the Old Testament wrote, the book of Ecclesiastes by Solomon. Chapter 3:1...There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under Heaven; a time to be born and a time to die, a time to plant and a time to uproot, a time to kill and a time to heal, a time to tear down and a time to build, a time to weep and a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to dance, a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them, a time to embrace and a time to refrain, a time to search and a time to give up, a time to keep and a time to throw away, a time to tear and a time to mend, a time to be silent and a time to speak, a time to love and a time to hate, a time to war and a time for peace. What does the worker gain from his toil? I have seen the burden God has laid on men. He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the hearts of men' yet they cannot fathom what God has done from the beginning to end. I know that there is nothing better for men than to be happy and do good while they live. That everyone may eat and drink, and find satisfaction in all his toil – this is the gift of God. I know that everything God does will endure forever; nothing can be added to it and nothing taken from it. God does it so that men will revere him.
Proverbs 1:7… The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and discipline!
I John 5:13… I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life!
